Heavy silver turquoise pendant


I rather like the unusual look of this pendant, the silver has been treated giving it an antique look.

The history of turquoise goes back a long way. Turquoise originally got its' name from the Turkish merchants who used to carry the beautiful stone to Europe to trade. They marched many miles driving huge camel caravans that carried not only the gorgeous turquoise stones but also spices, cloths and other jewels and gems. When the stones arrived in Germany they were named 'Stone of Turkey' which over the years became Turquoise.

Turquoise is found in many places all over the world, but is perhaps best known as coming from the American Indians. Medicine men have always used the stone to command honour and respect.
